Arrived at the library on a Friday morning, jacked up on dirty chai lattes and facing a to-do list with 50 jobs to get through. Lo and behold, turns out Friday morning is kids’ time.

What to do? Back out, or just grin and bear it? I mean, how long can it last?

Turns out, not too long 40 minutes. A few storybooks and plenty of nursery rhymes later, and peace was restored. But here’s the thing, while the group leader was on her second round of Humpty Dumpty and three verses into Ring a Ring o’ Roses, I realised… I was singing along.

Why is it that with all the music in the world at our fingertips, we’re still singing the same songs and reading the same nursery rhymes my parents read to me 45 years ago?
(Yes,there you go, that’s my age! lol)

Is it tradition?
Is it laziness, that we just can’t be arsed to learn something new?
Or… is it like the knowledge of the plants,so deeply embedded in our ancestral DNA that we can just recall it when needed?

It’s much like working with herbs.
If you’ve ever been to one of my workshops or classes, you’ll have heard me say:

We are all herbalists. Yes, even YOU.

It’s in your DNA. Your ancestors’ only option to heal themselves was to use plants.
Now, you have the choice to remember what’s buried deep down in your DNA: Plant Knowledge.

Just like nursery rhymes, it’s sitting there, ready to be recalled and passed on to the next generation.

Oh, imagine walking into the library one Friday morning to find a bunch of people singing from the top of their heads (with the same gusto of a 4-year-old):

Nettles are so nourishing,
Daisies heal our bruises,
Roses cool me down when I’m hot, hot, hot…
Oh oh oh, la la la—
I love weeds!

Well… we can all dream, right?
